4th Worksop (St John's) Explorers do conservation work for the National Trust at Clumber Park in North Notts
In June 4th Worksop (St John’s) Explorer Scouts visited Clumber Park with the leaders and under the supervision of warden Jeff Dodds have helped by picking up the litter left by visitors and also, after receiving safety instructions have helped with the trimming of trees and bushes to allow safe access to areas used by the general public. In due course and after completing further activities they will receive a community badge.
Also During June a number of the Scouts under the leadership of the SL Pip Staniland, have visited the park, doing similar work. Again under the supervision of warden Jeff Dodds. Those Scouts taking part will after completing other things be awarded a Community Challenge badge. GSL, Mick Taylor, said "I have on most occasions visited with the groups and was impressed by the enthusiasm of the young people, they certainly enjoyed visiting the park and working with Jeff. This is an activity which I hope will be of benefit to the Clumber Park and one which I would hope we can continue."
Katie Lawton said "We all met at the lime tree avenue cross roads where we were all greeted by Mr. Taylor, Pip the scout leader, and Jeff (a park ranger). We were given the appropriate equipment: a glow in the dark jacket, gloves, black bags for litter picking and shears for cutting branches down."
"During the three weeks we spent at Clumber we were able to capture sensational views whilst litter picking around the lovely lapping lake. Cutting down branches of trees was also another task we accomplished so we all gained a badge"
Another of the Scouts said: "Clumber was a great experience, we learned lots of things about the park and how to take care of it. We cut branches off trees and picked up litter while going round the park, seeing spectacular views and we had a great time doing it. We all worked hard to do the jobs and enjoyed ourselves and learned to take pleasure in the wild life. We met at lime Tree Avenue before we did the work. The weather wasn’t very good but we still went on, even though we got wet. Therefore we all got a super badge."
