INFORMATION JUST FOR YOU!
2011 WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE – NOTTINGHAMSHIRE UNIT
LEADERSHIP TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
Following the County Commissioners announcement earlier
this week, she has asked that I share it with you in this
note. Alison Taylor Lead the Nottinghamshire Unit to the next
World Scout Jamboree and will be assisted by James Greenwood,
Nathan Dias and Mary Brain. They will take 36 young people to
Sweden in the summer of 2011 for the international experience
of a lifetime.
Roadshows have already started around the County, so keep
your eyes peeled. I really would encourage you to tell your
Scouts and Explorer Scouts about the Jamboree and give them
the opportunity to attend a road show. Details will appear on
www.notts-scouts.org.uk
in due course and to find out about the Jamboree CLICK HERE
SLEEPING IN AND SLEEPING OUT FOR CHARITY
The Nottinghamshire Scouts are proud to announce we are
teaming up with Nottinghamshire Homeless Charity ‘Framework’.
Framework opens doors to homeless and vulnerable people and in
the last year supported 6,399 people – 44% of whom were under
25!!
There are two ways we can help; the first is for Explorer
Scouts only and involves a sponsored ‘sleep-out’ on Thursday
3rd December at the Framework HQ in Basford and the second,
which is open to all sections, is a sponsored ‘sleep-in’ on
Friday 4th December.
What a fab opportunity to make a real difference and put
our Scouting skills to use – it could be that you already have
something planned to we may be able to re-focus. To register
or to find out more contact:
County Flag is a challenge walk & cooking competition
that takes place on the 2nd weekend of November (the 2009
competition takes place on the 14th & 15th November) and
is open to Cubs (who only take part in the challenge walk),
Scouts, Explorers & Network Scouts across
Nottinghamshire.
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 2009
Don't forget about Anti Bullying Week, it's 16th - 21st of
November and it's a great opportunity to highlight issues,
develop anti-bullying charters or create a piece of drama. So
why not plan something into your programme. If you do, don't
forget to drop me a line to see if we can attract some media
attention.
OH WHAT’S OCCURRING??
Don’t forget to tell us of any events you have coming up or
anything you think we should be talking about – both
internally and externally. We have had a great amount of
publicity recently and I think we are all agreed we would like
it to continue!!
So let's keep it going, let's keep Nottinghamshire Scouts
in the news! Please continue to email me throughout the year
with your events! (Camps, Birthdays, Adventures,
Awards/Badges, Firsts, Lasts, Biggest, Expeditions etc...)
Just drop me an email or phone call with the who, what,
where, when and why and we'll try our best to generate some
coverage.

NEW LOOK WEBSITE - LIVE
Our County Webmaster, Dave Henson has been working hard to
give our website a face-lift.
The new domain and site are now live: www.notts-scouts.org.uk
If there is anything you want to see on the site then please
let us know webmaster@notts-scouts.org.uk
or if you have any stories, news or content then please let me
know.
Along with the new domain and site will come a new email
system. Hopefully a little easier to use than the previous
one; various members of the team will be contactable using the
following format firstname.lastname@notts-scouts.org.uk or by
leaving a message with the County Office on 0115 9523617.
FACEBOOK
Are you a member of the world’s largest social-networking
site yet? If so, make sure you join the ‘Nottinghamshire
Scouts – Leaders and Supporters’ group. It’s a great place
to share ideas, ask questions, catch up with other leaders
from around the County, see where Scouting has been cropping
up on the TV and to do a bit of networking. If you’re not a
member yet, what are you waiting for – why not give it a go!!
There is also some really handy guidance available on
Scoutbase to support us to stay safe whilst using ‘newer’
forms of technology when communicating with young people. To
take a look CLICK
HERE.
COUNTY TREASURER – EXTENDED DEADLINE
David Pidgeon, our current County Treasurer has indicated
he intends to step down in September 2010. We are therefore
currently looking to recruit a County Treasurer and
Assistant County Treasurer, both are volunteer roles. The
Nottinghamshire Scouts is the largest volunteer-led youth
organisation for boys and girls in the County. We are a medium
sized charity and both roles are vital within the county team,

ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITIES 2010
Steve Day and the County Activities Team have once again
surpassed themselves in creating an amazing dairy of
adventurous activities for both young people and adults during
2010. Every leader who has their correct details on the
national database will receive a copy through the post during
December. So now might be a great time to check your details
are correct by logging on to ‘my backpack’ on www.scouts.org.uk.
FREE PLANT POTS – DON’T MISS THIS FREEBIE
Nottinghamshire Scouts have been given a thousand plant
pots by R Sankey and Sons, to encourage young people to 'grow
their own'. We have 1000 pots and trays available and they are
FREE, however we would like as many colonies to benefit as
possible, so there will be a maximum order number at first.
This is a collection only offer and is available from County
HQ. Call Craig on 01159523617 or email office@notts-scouts.org.uk
to reserve your pots.
AWARDS FOR ALL
We can make nominations for various national Scouting award
from Gilwell Park. If you can think of somebody you would like
to nominate for an award then we want to hear from you!!! Drop
us a line with the persons name, group, district and what this
person does that you think should be recognised. There are
strict criteria for the various awards, but having the names
is a really good first step!!
COMMUNICATION AND TALKING TO EACH OTHER
Please, Please, Please keep talking to us!! Invite us to
your events, tell us what's happening, tell us what needs to
be better and show us what's working well. Please also email
this (and other) communications to your Scouting colleagues
and friends. Perhaps one person could take the role off
messages and displaying in your Scout HQ or sharing it with
leaders not on email.
We know there are people who are not on email, so we ask
for you to share information locally at group or district
level. This will help us to keep costs down and keep Scouting
affordable to our volunteers and young people. Members of the
team will be contactable using the following format
firstname.lastname@notts-scouts.org.uk or by leaving a message
with the County Office on 0115 9523617.
