28 July 2007: Opening Ceremony
A group of about twenty explorers from across Nottinghamshire traveled down to the Jamboree on 26 July, just to take part in the opening ceremony. They camped on Skreen's Park firstly with some Sudanese scouts, and then with some Canadians. On Saturday 28 July, the Jamboree "extras" shared the stage with Prince William and HRH The Duke of Kent as they carried the flags of each country into the opening ceremony.
Howard, who led the "Nottinghamshire Extras" writes: "I speak on behalf of all the Leaders of the Nottm Extras Unit (Diane, Nicky, Graham, Nat, Ju and myself) when I say that our Nottingham Explorers were a pure delight to work with over the four days. Despite very early breakfasts and late Dinners back at Skreens Park and long days rehearsing with long periods just having to wait around either in the rain or in the hot sun, they took it all in their stride with great spirit and co-operation. When the time came for them to do the real thing, their uniforms and behaviour were impeccable - they were true ambassadors for Nottinghamshire Scouting and we were so proud of them. And oh boy! , did some of them know how to party when we returned to Hylands later on Saturday Evening!"
