Malc's Blog - April 2010
Hi Everyone!
Here is a quick update about what has been happening with the Explorer Section. The census figures show that we have grown as a section within the county – well done everyone, it's through all your hard work and enthusiasm that this has been possible. Let's hope the numbers increase again this year.
Recently I was out supporting some of the Explorers with their D of E Expedition. It was great to see everyone out and about in Derbyshire and I met loads of groups out there. I wonder how many other groups were out and about experiencing everyday adventure elsewhere in the country?
There are plenty of county activities coming up soon including the County Activity Day. Have you booked yet? This is taking place as an outcome of one of the suggestions given at a forum meeting. You asked for it, please support it!
The St George's Day event at Windsor takes place later this month and the county team are taking the largest contingent of Queen's Scouts from Nottinghamshire that we have had in recent years. This is a fantastic opportunity for all those gaining the Queen's Scout Award. Hopefully some of you will be joining us next year.
We are still working on the youth forum and finding as many opportunities as possible for the young people to have a voice about how scouting should develop within the county. Many of the sessions are held at the end of a county event such as the County Activity Day. If you haven't taken part in a forum session yet, why not keep an eye on the website or drop me an email to find out when the next forum session is taking place?
The Explorer Section now has a facebook group so why not click and join? Remember to tell as many Explorers as possible about the web page and facebook group, it is the best way of keeping in touch with what is happening.
And don't forget that we are challenging you to play our fantastic game of Nottingham Monopoly, only we don't play it on a board, we actually play it live around the Greater Nottingham area. That's taking place 9-11 July (follow the link to read more). Why not ask your Explorer Leader to show you the article about last year's event in the Explorer Scout supplement of Scouting Magazine this month? We got a full page! Better still, read it on line now!
To close my latest Blog I would like to wish all the best to the many contingents that are going abroad in the near future, World Jamboree (well done to the 36 participants), Kandersteg and Explorer belt challengers. Please let me know of any events or meetings that you would like me to visit.
Yours in Scouting
Malcolm Skelton
Assistant County Commisioner for Explorer Scouts
