CENTENARY OF SCOUTING IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE CELEBRATED AT COUNTY CAMP

County Camp 1Over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend 3000 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Network members & Leaders celebrated the 100th Birthday of Nottinghamshire Scouts with a fun-packed Hollywood-themed weekend at Walesby Forest Activity Centre.

 

James Bond The site was split into 5 mini-villages to encourage young people to make new friends from other parts of Nottinghamshire, each one taking a theme from a film; Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and James Bond. Each of the tented villages was designed to accommodate 500, with its own facilities especially themed activities and chill out areas. 

 

County Camp 3The weekend was officially opened by Matt Rooney, Deputy County Commissioner, who spoke of the importance of making new friends and meeting new people, celebrating our achievements and being proud of the fact we belong to the Scout Movement. This was followed by a spectacular firework display.

County Commissioner, Kathryn Wills, said “This year’s camp is a wonderful way to celebrate our 100th Birthday, it’s a traditional Scouting activity with a modern twist” she continued “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing young people enjoying an activity and achieving something new."
