How to get a permit
- Applicant completes form available www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/docs/adactpermit.doc
- Send form to County Office or one of the ACC Activities
- County Assessor allocated who will contact the applicant regarding the assessment which will be a practical assessment unless a National Governing Body award is held
- The applicants knowledge of rules relating to that activity will be checked
- The completed permit form & checklist will be returned to the office
- CRB check (District)
- Personal Suitability (DC)
- Permit granted by relevant Commissioner (DC)
Timescales
- Technical Assessment, can take a while to arrange, allow at least 1 month
- County office send permit & form to DC to sign please return this to the office we will post out the permit direct to the applicant max 14 days
- Please notify County office of any amendments
- The forms can now be downloaded and emailed to save time

NIGHTS AWAY PERMIT
- District Responsibility
- Nights Away Advisor assessors an applicants suitability to lead residential experiences
- Either by Fast Track or practical assessment
- Nights Away Advisor makes recommendation to District Commissioner
- The District Commissioner completes and signs the permit
Types of Permit
- Indoor
- Campsite
- Green Field
- Lightweight Expedition
Notification
- Permit holder notifies DC 7 days before the event using NAN form or similar
- If on a none Scout property then permit holder notifies host DC 14 days before the event
- Permit holder responsible for ensuring first aid provision
Event Passports
- Used by under 18’s only
- Event Specific, one passport per event
- First Aid provision must be met
- Permit holder supports prior to and during the event but does not need to be present

- New category – Lightweight Expedition
- First aid required for all NA events
- NAP renewal separate to warrant review
- Simplify under 18s working with Service Teams

Confirmations
- Permits are not sectional specific
- It is a National scheme
- Passports are only for under 18s
- Notification is required for Network events
- No maximum age to gain a permit
- No prerequisites to gaining a permit
- A permit is not the same as module 16
- Better definitions of:
- A Nights Away event(any overnight residential experience)
- When the permit holder needs to be on site (during the sleeping element of the activity)
- Difference between a campsite and greenfield (Greenfield has no toilets or water supply)
- Who needs permits at large camps (At least one per group or District to ensure that our youngsters get a quality experience)
